My name is William Alyn, and I currently reside in the rural outskirts of Topeka Kansas; a quiet, peaceful area of farmland and countryside.
My interest in art has spanned most of my lifetime, manifesting itself through childish crayon and colored pencil drawings in my early years and developing to full blown passion by my early teens. I honed my skills by working through the curriculum of Art Instruction Schools, and afterward by teaching myself to use watercolors, which I continue to practice and improve upon.
In late Autumn of 2011, I was introduced to My little Pony: Friendship Is Magic by my brother, who insisted that it was remarkably good despite certain stigmas surrounding the franchise. I was, of course, hesitant about watching a show full of little candy-colored ponies, magic, and rainbows, but upon foregoing my apprehension and watching a few episodes I found myself unapologetically hooked. The characters were brilliant and full of personality, the world was vibrantly depicted without being too sugar-coated, and the stories told in each episode were not only fun and enjoyable, but surprisingly coherent. As a person of artistic inclination I could not help but be inspired by the show and its unexpected following. So I started doing simple pencil sketches of the characters, as well as a few paintings on my DSi, then moved on to watercolor paintings and started posting them here on deviantART.
It may sound silly, but I would say that through drawing ponies, using styles and painting techniques that I wouldn't normally use, and generally working outside my established comfort zone, I've become a better artist.Click here to view The-Wizard-of-Art's gallery!
